First Impressions and What We're Doing Now
Right now, I believe we are in a very good place. Because we spent a little more than two weeks in the fall working on Estim8, Quinn and I thought we had a strong idea of what we had to do when we got to Paragon. However, that was not the case. I missed the first day of the project because I had to take an AP Spanish exam, so I had to ask Quinn about the vibe he got from Paragon and Mr. Ours. He told me he was excited to work with Paragon, but we had our work cut out for us. This message from Quinn helped me get into the right mindset and motivate myself to be ready for anything.
The first day I came into Paragon, we got right to work. I learned about how to make a “use case”, where you take the perspective of your different potential users and what they would want their app to do. I spent about an hour or so simply writing different use cases for students, professors, and parents, and it helped me gain a stronger sense of what parents would want Estim8 to do. After I made different use cases, me and Quinn decided that I should be the one to map out our plans for Estim8’s different functions, so I wrote a plan for all of the functions we want Estim8 to have on its release as opposed to what we want for its future. As of right now, me and Quinn are currently continuing to work on our go-to-market strategy and our business plan.
While continuing to work on Estim8, we’ve sat in on two different meetings for the heads of different departments within Paragon. The meetings lasted about 2.5 hours each, and I’ve been able to learn a lot about how Paragon and other companies function. In the first meeting, the heads discussed the process and difficulties of hiring and recruiting different employees. In this meeting, we were shown a revenue model, which gave us an idea of what we needed to make for Estim8. The second meeting was yesterday, and they covered a lot of the same issues. The two meetings gave me a lot of perspective on how businesses work because of what I know about Paragon. What I mean by that is how even if a company is succeeding, like Paragon, they can still have pressing issues that they need to discuss for four hours over a week. I’m excited to continue working with Quinn, Mr. Ours, and the rest of Paragon because I’ve already learned so much, and there is so much more I can learn
Sounds like you are getting a substantial look at the big picture issues of running a business as well as the important in-the-weeds work that needs to happen to get a business plan off the ground!
